The Gemini Giant An Original Muffler Man in Wilmington, IL The Polk-A-Dot Drive In More than a Roadside Diner

The First Hundred Miles of Route 66

Freedom.  The Open Road.  The American Dream.

All are still alive on The Mother Road.  The nostalgia of diners, museums, tourist stops and neon lights are there for you to visit as you make the drive from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA.  You can still get your Kicks on Route 66.

There are many great stops, from the Route 66 Welcome Center at the Joliet Area Historical Museum to the 20 Walldog murals that embrace the city of Pontiac, IL.  Don’t miss local favorites like the two-cell jail in Gardner, IL and the Polk-a-Dot Drive-in in Braidwood, IL.

That giant spaceman in the distance?  That’s the Gemini Giant, one of the last remaining “Muffler Men” still along America’s Main Street.
