It’s difficult to imagine LaSalle once earning the nickname “Little Reno” for its robust gambling and entertainment scene from the 1930’s-1950’s. A far cry from the days when 19th century pioneers traveled the Illinois & Michigan Canal on mule-pulled boats. Today’s visitors can experience the scenery and history first-hand on a one-hour Lock 16 Canal Boat replica ride guided by authentically-dressed canal era crew and passengers. The Hegeler Carus Mansion sits restored, yet unaltered since its construction over a century ago. This National Historic Landmark was originally the home of the Hegeler family, known for their magnanimous contributions to industry, publishing, philosophy, and religion and stands as a crowning example of achievement, architecture and interior design. Keeping pace with the modern-day racing hobbyist, LaSalle Speedway’s ¼ mi. clay oval plays host to World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series, AMA, ARCA Truck Series and dirt late-model racing events. Complete with a charming downtown offering fine to casual dining options, LaSalle embraces its history and looks forward to welcoming new visitors searching to discover more.
