Louis Jolliet and René-Robert Cavelier, also known as La Salle, were two ambitious 17th-century rivals who sought to establish the first European settlements in today's Illinois. Historian, educator and author Mark Walczynski will examine the extent of this rivalry, showing how far both men were willing to stretch the truth in order to be the first to establish French settlement and commerce in the region.
