Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

This instructional workshop, led by the United States Canoe Association (USCA) certified instructors, introduces beginners to the sport of kayaking. Basic paddling instruction and safety is covered on shore, and then participants head to the water and try out new skills. Topics covered include safety equipment, weather, proper clothing and general kayak equipment. Participants will learn basic paddling strokes and proper paddling technique. They will also become familiar with the various types of recreational kayaks on the market. Wet exits will be demonstrated by instructors on the water. All necessary equipment is provided. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. Consider bringing sunscreen, sunglasses and bottled water. Group rates are available. Call for more information. Private one-on-one paddling instruction is also available by appointment only. The launch area is accessible via a paved walkway from the parking lot. For ages 12 or older. Participants younger than age 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration required two days before the program date.
