As part of this year's "The Great Read" special events, the White Oak Library District is pleased to present "A Struggle for a Dream: the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." at its Lockport Branch Library.

Historian Jim Gibbons will discuss the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., focusing on his strong nonviolent beliefs, his turbulent life and tragic death, and why we commemorate January 15th every year in his honor.

This special program is part of "The Great Read" events (www.greatread.org). This year's community read focuses on the life and lasting legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister, social activist in the civil rights movement, and the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. (2018 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's assassination.)

By attending any Great Read program, or by reading a book or watching a movie on the topic of Martin Luther King, Jr. or the Civil Rights Movement, you can enter a free drawing to win a Barnes & Noble gift card.

The "A Struggle for a Dream: the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." program will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, at the Lockport Branch Library, 121 E. 8th Street, 2nd Floor, Meeting Rooms A&B. Registration required.
