Where is the Heritage Corridor?
The Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encompasses the communities and counties along the historic 97-mile Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. The Heritage Corridor spans from the Chicago Portage Area just southwest of Chicago to LaSalle-Peru including the counties of Will, Grundy, LaSalle and Putnam. The region conveniently located along I-55 from Chicago to Joliet along I-80 west to LaSalle-Peru.

Bring Your Own Boat: Kayak Skills and Safety (Advanced)

This workshop, led by U.S. Canoe Association/American Canoe Association certified instructors, covers basic kayak safety on slow moving water. Safety topics and equipment will be covered on shore and then participants will head out on the water to practice some new safety skills. Topics will include rope basics, wet exit and re-entry, self rescue, and equipment rescue. Participants must bring their own kayak and personal flotation device (PFD). All participants must wear a PFD. All other equipment including throw bags, tow rope and paddle floats will be available for demonstration and practice. Participants will be in the water, so be sure to wear clothes that can get wet and shoes that will stay on your feet. Consider bringing sunscreen, towels, a hat and a water bottle. Kayaking experience is required. Rivals Lookout Park is located at 35149 S. Rivals Road in Wilmington. Activities take place on natural surfaces across uneven terrain. Ages 18 or older. Registration required by Thursday, September 12: 815.722.9470. No online registration.
